My gas furnace began having issues shutting off before the house was brought up to the temp on the thermostat. My wife checks out the unit in the basement and notices that the single wall 6 inch metal exhaust pipe coming out of the unit is rusted and split open; I would like to point out that this is not up to code for furnace exhaust and created a situation where carbon monoxide was leaking into my basement, installed by Comfort in 2017. I was told that there will be a $45 Service Fee and an $80 Diagnostic Fee that will be applied toward repair if I use them to fix the issue. My wife called and texted me that the tech had been walking around the house for 2 hrs looking for where the exhaust pipe left the house, was trying to get her to help him, and was on the phone for most of the time that he was at the house. I was able to get through to the tech on the phone, at which time he indeed told me that he couldn’t find where the exhaust pipe left the house and that he was going to write a proposal to cut a new hole in the basement and completely rerun the line out. I told the tech that I was not confident in the diagnosis and did not agree that the exhaust was blocked, which I confirmed in the 15min it took the next day when I found the exit of the clear line in my chimney. So, let’s talk about what they charged for this visit: the $45 Service Fee was accurate, but they decided that the diagnostic was an “Extensive Diagnostic” and charged me for 2 of them, totaling $250. I call for the next couple of days and eventually end up speaking with the service manager, who informs me that yes, the $250 charge is correct and no, it will not apply to the repair. The $300 was a complete waste of money for a ridiculous diagnosis and proposal; I just had to consider it a sunk cost and move on to a different company. The other company diagnosed the issue in 30min and came back later that day to do the 1hr repair that was needed with no additional holes cut into my basement.

Company charged me $1390.00 to replace a blower motor. Invoice does not break out the cost of the part versus labor. The part is a Rescue Select Pro motor that can be purchased for $200-$240 from several vendors. That tells me the company feels like their service is worth $1000.00 per hour which is a ridiculous rate. Their service is not worth that much. Please do not use this company.

            **. *****,

We understand your complaint about the price of the repair that you agreed upon for us to make on your system. The ECM module motors are more costly than a standard PSC motor, by providing the X13 motor we were able to save you money over the OEM motor. We do not understand how you figured, not knowing the cost of our time, labor, material, etc, that you were overcharged 700%. Furthermore, you had air conditioning at the time of the repair so if you felt the price was excessive, you simply could have chosen not to sign the authorization approval that was presented to you before our technician left your residence to pick up the motor on a Saturday and returned to finish the job. At any point during that timeframe, you had the opportunity to refuse the repair and simply pay for our service call and diagnostic charge. With the motor you purchased with us you have a 2-year warranty on the motor and our labor. We also provide a follow-up visit, upon which you told my office that you did not want us coming back to your home, within a few days of the repair to check the operation of the system. You originally went online to see how much the motor cost. We do not purchase items online, because we have them readily available through local vendors. You are stating that you supposedly found the motor for $200 to $240. I assure you that wasn't the cost that we paid for the motor. And once again, you authorized us to perform the work with your signature and then you question our prices and practice. We will still honor the 2-year parts and labor warranty and the offer to perform our follow-up call like we tried to set up for you. Thank you again for your feedback. My name is Bernie J****** and I'm the owner here at Comfort Air. My phone is always on at the office if you would like to discuss this matter further. I hope you have a great day.

I'm not sure what this X13 motor is that you say you installed. The motor that was installed was a Rescue Select Pro and it is $200-$240 everywhere I look. If you paid more than that for it you should find a different supplier. Even if the motor was twice or three times that price it still does not justify you charging me $1390. I trusted you to provide expertise at a fair and reasonable price. At the time I authorized the repair I was trusting you as I did not know what a fair price for the part would be. You have lost my trust and that is my lesson learned. Have a good day.

Again you keep quoting the price of a part. You obviously do not understand the operation of a company, such as labor, overhead cost, operating cost, warranty cost, etc. Our pricing is all within standard industry guidelines. You stated your opinion, and we appreciate your feedback. Have a great day.

            Bernie,

By saying "You obviously do not understand" you are calling me an ***** which I assure you I am not. I know exactly how companies operate as I myself work for a company providing service that includes materials, labor and warranties. I originally asked for a itemized invoice and you have repeatedly ignored that request. You continue to hide the cost of the materials by including that with your "service" charge. Any reputable service company would invoice materials and labor separately.

I will NEVER request service from Comfort Air and will NOT ever recommend Comfort Air to anyone else. If fact, I will go out of my way to recommend avoiding you company and any cost.

            **. *****,

Please do not put words in my mouth. I did not call you an "*****". I stated that you do not understand what it costs to operate a business. You stated that you work for a company that offers parts, labor, and warranty. If you work for someone how can you know how to operate and run a business on the financial side. Anyway, that is not here or there. We provided you a service that you authorized, and now you are unsatisfied because you claim you found a part online. Please do not threaten us with your remarks. I have been professional and courteous up to this point. And like I stated in previous remarks, you are more than welcome to contact me at my office or make an appointment to see me at my office located at **** *. ******* **** **. ****** ****** ** *****. You don't know me or my financial background so to make the assumption that I don't know the financial side of running a business is a mistake on you part. This was never about how you run your business it was about being honest with your customers. I've asked for detailed billing and you have not provided that information. Again, your company will never get any business from me. That is a promise not a threat. Good Day.
